A Business Number is a 9-digit account number issued by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and used to identify your business to federal, provincial and municipal governments.
Typical Saskatchewan businesses or organizations with a business number include:
- Sole proprietorship, a business with only one owner;
- Partnerships, including limited partnership (LP) and limited liability partnership (LLP);
- Corporations, including those that end in Corporation, Corp., Incorporated, Inc., Limited, Ltd. and the following corporations: Non-profit Corporation, Co-operatives, Credit Unions, Banks (domestic/foreign), Extra-Provincial Insurers, Extra-Provincial and New West Partnership Corporations, Treasury Crowns, CIC Crown Corporations, Federal Crowns;
- Trusts, including Family Trusts, Pension Plans, RRSPs, RRIFs, Account Trusts, Employer Sponsored Plans; and
- Legislated entities as follows: Condominium Corporation, School Divisions, and Saskatchewan Indian Bands.
During the organization account creation, the administrator will need to share the following information so it can compared with the information on file at CRA:
- Legal name (as verified by SGI);
- The administrator's legal name as verified by SGI must be the same as the legal name used in the company's registration. If they are not the same, we'll be unable to verify your details with the CRA; and
- Business number, as issued by CRA.
- Business type
Information matches CRA files
If the administrator's identity can be verified online with CRA, the Organization Account will be ready for immediate use.
No match
If the administrator's information does not match that on file at CRA, they will need to contact the organization's owner/director to connect it to another Individual Account. Alternatively, the administrator can update their details with SGI and/or CRA before connecting the organization.
